Re “Behind the lines with the Taliban,” Jan. 11

I just read Paul Watson’s fascinating article; thanks for risking your life to bring us the other side of the conflict in Afghanistan.

The absurdity of pressing with military means to control that strange place will become obvious as the American people are educated about Afghanistan, its fierce people, treacherous terrain and its long history of xenophobia.

I have spent a little time in the area, through the Indus gorge and Skardu; I’ve been in vans as we pull up to the local boys lounging around with their AKs. But to travel to Ghazni takes a great deal of courage.
