City in the driver’s seat

Re “Targeting street sales of cars,” Jan. 8

Regarding the Los Angeles City Council’s crackdown on the street sales of cars, here is a suggestion in which everybody wins.

One weekend a month, the city could use an empty parking lot -- such as Dodger Stadium or the Coliseum -- and allow any private party to sell a car.

The city could charge a small fee to the individual seller, and it also could rent some spaces to the DMV, auto insurance companies and even food vendors. This concept has worked successfully in Europe for many years.
