Heart-shaped sticker was found on Caylee Anthony, reports say

Slain Florida toddler Caylee Anthony’s mouth was covered with silver duct tape that had been adorned with a heart-shaped sticker, according to reports released Wednesday.

The reports released by the state attorney’s office also said that duct tape was attached to her hair, and that the girl’s remains were placed in a laundry-hamper bag and then secured in a plastic garbage bag before being left in the woods.

When investigators processed the duct tape at an FBI lab in Quantico, Va., they noticed the residue of a heart-shaped sticker on it. The sticker was later found near where the toddler’s remains were discovered.

“It appears the sticker was put on the duct tape intentionally,” a detective wrote in a request to search the home where Caylee Anthony lived with her mother and grandparents.

Investigators also found a Winnie the Pooh blanket, a pair of striped shorts and a toddler-size shirt in the bag with Caylee’s remains, according to the reports.

A utility worker found the girl’s body in December in woods near where she lived with her mother and grandparents. She was reported missing in July, a month after she was last seen. Her third birthday passed while she was missing.

Caylee’s mother, 22-year-old Casey Anthony, has been charged with killing the girl. She has claimed that a baby-sitter kidnapped Caylee.

The mother’s attorney, Jose Baez, filed a request Wednesday to inspect the woods where the girl’s body was found. The property is privately owned, and the owner hasn’t returned calls requesting an inspection, Baez said in the filing.

In the state attorney’s office reports, the mother’s former boyfriend, Ricardo Morales, described her as having a normal relationship with her daughter, but he recounted that she once joked about giving Caylee baby medicine to put her to sleep.

Detectives questioned Morales about chloroform, an area of interest since investigators found traces of chloroform -- a chemical compound used to induce unconsciousness that also is a component of human decomposition -- in the trunk of Casey Anthony’s car during forensic testing.

The documents released Wednesday also showed text messages from Casey Anthony’s friends expressing surprise that she had never mentioned her daughter was missing during the month between when the toddler disappeared and when authorities were contacted.

“Y wouldn’t u tell me of all people?” her former boyfriend, Anthony Lazzaro text-messaged her, according to the reports. “Why would you lie to me thinking she was fine and with your nanny?”
