Milwaukee Bucks star guard Michael Redd will sit out the rest of the season because of two torn ligaments in his left knee.

Redd was injured in the third quarter of Milwaukee’s victory over Sacramento on Saturday night. Bucks General Manager John Hammond said Sunday that an MRI exam on Redd’s knee revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament.

Surgery to repair the injury has not been scheduled.

Redd leads the team with 21.2 points per game and is fifth on the franchise’s career scoring list. He said in a statement issued by the team that he is “deeply disappointed, but everything in life happens for a reason and this is God’s plan for me.”

In the third quarter Saturday, Redd landed awkwardly on teammate Luke Ridnour’s foot after missing a shot near the basket.

Grizzlies bring in Hollins

Lionel Hollins is clear about what steps he needs to take to succeed in the daunting task of leading the Memphis Grizzlies to respectability.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge,” Hollins said at a news conference to introduce him as the Grizzlies’ new coach. “I believe that I have a vision of what it takes to win.”

Hollins, a former assistant with the Grizzlies, was serving as an assistant for Milwaukee when Memphis fired Marc Iavaroni on Thursday. Hollins has twice been the interim coach for the Grizzlies.
