NBC’s “Today” show was supposed to reveal the Los Angeles charity that it had agreed to help Monday morning, but after an hour of building up to it, local viewers were denied the opportunity to find out because KNBC-TV Channel 4 cut away for coverage of the U.S. Open golf tournament that had been delayed over the weekend by bad weather.

East Coast viewers who had seen the earlier live “Today” feed watched Roker with crowds of people and volunteers on the Will Rogers Beach in Pacific Palisades, where he delivered $429,000 worth of supplies and goods to A Chance for Children Foundation, an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that provides homeless and disadvantaged youth with after-school programs, summer camps, holiday events and college tuition.

An NBC spokesperson said the “Today” show would talk again about the L.A. charity on today’s broadcast. The announcement segment can also be viewed on the “Today” website, www.todayshow.com.
