Times Wire Reports

President Horst Koehler led thousands of Germans at an emotional remembrance service for the victims of a school massacre that left 16 dead.

Ten days ago, Tim Kretschmer, 17, shot dead 12 people at his former school in Winnenden and three more outside before killing himself when cornered by police.

“The whole of Germany is grieving with you,” Koehler said at the service in a packed church while struggling to hold back tears.

Schoolmates of the victims lighted candles bearing their names at the service, which was broadcast for thousands at a nearby stadium and carried live on national TV.

The families of five of the shooting victims called for gun controls.
