You don’t say
Re “High court upholds profanity ban,” April 29
Will the Supreme Court publish a list of words that broadcasters are permitted to utter? Do other languages count?
Will obscenity rendered in French or scatology in Korean be allowable? How about homonyms: May one say “fog” with a Dutch accent? Do we risk offending families of Puritan descent by saying “bloody”?
Without a list, nothing will be accomplished by this ruling.
If we’re going to give up chunks of freedom of speech, let’s be clear about it.
