Best Buy Co. began offering fitness equipment in select markets as the retailer tries to expand its wares beyond electronics.
“At first glance, it seems like a real stretch,” said Anthony Chukumba at FTN Equity Capital Markets.
Now that music distribution has gone digital, Best Buy is looking to find ways to fill “the center of the store,” Chukumba said.
Best Buy spokesman Steve Trier said the fitness equipment was a natural for the company’s customers who were trying to work out.
