THE SCOUT : OPENING : His store has a new stage

Jason Arnold for Modern, a Pasadena store that specializes in architect-designed pieces from the 1940s to 1970s that are in near-mint condition, has relocated to a small yet inviting storefront closer to the Playhouse District. “The space is limited, so the goal was to create room settings that people could visualize in their own homes,” owner Jason Arnold says. Though store visitors might see a console by Greta Magnusson Grossman or seats by Paul McCobb, they might also see designs by Arnold, who is pictured here in his walnut Laszlo armchair. The chair is a lower and wider interpretation of a piece by acclaimed L.A. architect and custom furniture designer Paul Laszlo. It’s made to order and sells for $1,500. 977 E.
