Notre Dame defeats Long Beach State

at Notre Dame 82, Long Beach State 62: Luke Harangody had 29 points and 12 rebounds and the Fighting Irish took control with a 13-2 run to open the second half. Larry Anderson led Long Beach State with 20 points. Eugene Phelps had 18 rebounds for the 49ers.

at UC Riverside 87, La Verne 71: Kyle Austin scored 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Highlanders (1-2) over the Leopards (0-2). Larry Gurganious contributed 21 points for Riverside. John Leggett led La Verne with 21 points.

WOMEN

at UCLA 98, Hawaii 52: Erica Tukiainen scored 24 points and the Bruins (2-1) tied a school record with 12 three-point baskets, including six by Tukiainen, to beat the Warriors (1-1). UCLA freshman Markel Walker had 12 points, 12 rebounds and eight steals.

at Gonzaga 70, USC 58: Vivian Frieson scored a team-high 22 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs (2-1) over the Trojans (1-2). Ashley Corral led USC with 23 points, but the Trojans shot only 29.2% from the field.
