Re “Oliver Stone Chats It Up with Chavez,” by Reed Johnson, Sept. 1: Perhaps Oliver Stone should move to Cuba, or Venezuela, for that matter, and test their freedom of expression policies by exposing those government’s human rights violations.

It is easy to befriend these leftist governments while enjoying American freedoms.

Did Stone’s mother ever serve in a Cuban forced labor camp, as my mother did (her crime: wanting to leave the country to join her only son who had left years earlier to escape Castro’s oppression)? If this were the case, perhaps he would not be so eager to defend these dictators.
