Contreras is sharp in Rockies debut

DENVER —
Jose Contreras gave up one run and struck out five in 6 2/3 innings in his debut with the Colorado Rockies for a 4-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night.
Seth Smith and Carlos Gonzalez each hit home runs for the Rockies, who have a one-game lead over San Francisco in the National League wild-card race.
Colorado acquired Contreras from the Chicago White Sox on Monday.
