Google Inc.’s settlement with publishers over digital copies of books will benefit scholars, libraries and the blind, the company’s top legal officer plans to tell lawmakers.

David Drummond, Google’s chief legal officer, will appear today at a House Judiciary Committee hearing that will focus on Google’s settlement.

More than 60 groups and individuals have filed objections to the settlement with U.S. District Judge Denny Chin in New York, who scheduled an Oct. 7 hearing to decide whether he will approve the deal.
