Times Wire Reports

More than 200 people, including many children returning from holiday journeys, were missing and feared dead a day after a wooden boat capsized at sea.

Thirty-nine passengers have been rescued off the coast of Sierra Leone, said navy Lt. Cmdr. Mao Suma. Search teams have recovered 16 bodies, Suma said, and 213 people are missing.

He said searchers did not expect to find more survivors because of strong tides and a turbulent sea in the area of the accident. A police official said most of the passengers were traveling with young children after holidays.
