Underrated: ‘The Mighty Boosh’ and John Fahey

‘The Mighty Boosh’: Rumor has it this utterly absurd and very funny BBC series (also seen on Cartoon Network’s “Adult Swim”) is coming to the big screen, and we couldn’t be happier. Built around the surreal adventures of a pair of would-be musicians played by British comics Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt, the series captures an improvised mania rarely seen outside sketch comedy.

John Fahey: The term “guitar hero” may conjure images of Jimi Hendrix and Jack White, but for us it doesn’t get much better than this finger-style guitarist, whose 1968 album “The Yellow Princess” will be rereleased as part of Record Store Day this Saturday. Influenced by folk, blues and something entirely his own, Fahey was a favorite of Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore.

The Travel Channel’s product placement: We’re longtime fans of Anthony Bourdain’s foodie travel show “No Reservations,” and though we recognize following a guy’s stomach around the world isn’t cheap, please stop forcing the already grumpy chef to awkwardly flash a certain bank card to pick up a check every week. To his (true) credit, he looks only slightly less pained by it than we do.

The third dimension: Now that “Clash of the Titans” has earned blockbuster dollars with the help of shoddily upscaled 3-D showings, it’s time to remind the studios that “Avatar” didn’t open the door for higher-priced moviegoing experiences -- it set the bar. Either earn our spectacle dollars with innovation worthy of the silly glasses or watch this cash cow become a fad all over again.
