A prime time for artful designs

Designers and fashion-lovers alike turned out July 24 to launch this year’s Art of Television Costume Design exhibit at the FIDM Museum and Galleries at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. It’s the fifth year in a row for the show, mounted in conjunction with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to showcase the work of costume designers working on current shows, including 2010 Emmy nominees and last year’s Emmy winner, Robert Blackman who won for “Pushing Daisies.” Current nominee Lou Eyrich seemed to get a kick out of a plaid-skirted ensemble worn by Rachel on “Glee,” while Janie Bryant and Peter Yozell viewed some of her Emmy-nominated creations for “Mad Men.” An outfit from “Treme” wasn’t nominated, but popped with bright color and a futuristic design. The exhibit features more than 70 costumes and will run through Sept. 4.

“Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design;” FIDM Museum and Galleries, 919 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles; (213) 623-5821; open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Admission is free.
