Oingo Boingo: With nearly every band from our youth hitting the reunion circuit, we’re oddly grateful that film work will keep Danny Elfman’s former band a fond memory. A bonkers mix of rock, ska and surrealist theater, Boingo was L.A.’s Halloween house band for years, and though you can hear traces of the group’s manic energy in acts such as Yeasayer and Foals, they’re truly one of a kind.

‘Ed Wood’ (1994): Now that we’re days away from Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” we thought we’d remember a time when the director didn’t need digital effects or a candy-colored Johnny Depp to tell an engrossing and heartfelt story. We love Burton’s imagination but hope that one day he’ll leave his big-budget storybook land and get back to making movies with outcast humans again.

Studying celebrity roots: We’re Olympics junkies, so we’ve absorbed about a million ads for NBC’s upcoming “Who Do You Think You Are,” a documentary-style series where celebs such as Sarah Jessica Parker learn about their family trees. Certainly a noble pursuit for anyone, but we can’t imagine the fun in watching famous people discover that even their ancestry is more interesting than yours.

Everything about Chatroulette: If you haven’t heard of this baffling new corner of the Internet, the concept is simple: Visit the website, hook up a webcam, then randomly shuffle through other “chatters” at will. They see you, you see them, the rest is up to everyone’s own internal filter. It’s like a cross between “The Gong Show” and the eighth circle of Hell. We’ll pass, thanks.
