“The Hurt Locker,” AMC’s “Mad Men” and HBO’s “Grey Gardens” were named as winners at the 46th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards, which honor outstanding achievement in feature films and television. Production mixer Ray Beckett and re-recording mixer Paul J. Ottosson took top honors for their work on “The Hurt Locker,” which bested “Avatar,” “District 9,” “Star Trek” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” in the feature film category.

The “Mad Men” episode “Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency” won the television series category for production mixer Peter Bently and re-recording mixers Ken Teaney, CAS and Todd Orr, while production mixer Henry Embry’s and re-recording mixer Rick Ash’s work on “Grey Gardens” earned them the award for television movie and mini-series.

In addition to the 2009 awards, the CAS bestowed a career achievement award on Randy Thom; the two-time Academy Award winner (best sound for “The Right Stuff” and best sound editing for “The Incredibles”) has worked on such films as “Forrest Gump,” “Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi” and “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.”

“Coraline” director Henry Selick was the evening’s other special honoree; his work in stop-motion animation earned him the 2010 CAS Filmmaker of the Year award, which has previously gone to such helmers as Quentin Tarantino, Bill Condon and Paul Mazursky.
