The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan:

Brushaun X. Anderson, 20, of Columbus, Ga.; specialist, Army. Anderson died Jan. 1 of noncombat-related injuries in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Brian R. Bowman, 24, of Crawfordsville, Ind.; specialist, Army. Bowman was among three soldiers killed Jan. 3 when insurgents attacked their unit with improvised explosive devices and small-arms fire in the village of Ashoque in southwest Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

David A. Croft Jr., 22, of Plant City, Fla.; specialist, Army. Croft was killed Tuesday when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

John P. Dion, 19, of Shattuck, Okla.; private, Army. Dion was among three soldiers killed Jan. 3 when insurgents attacked their unit with improvised explosive devices and small-arms fire in the village of Ashoque in southwest Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Joshua A. Lengstorf, 24, of Yoncalla, Ore.; sergeant, Army. Lengstorf was among three soldiers killed Jan. 3 when insurgents attacked their unit with improvised explosive devices and small-arms fire in the village of Ashoque in southwest Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Bradley R. Smith, 24, of Troy, Ill.; senior airman, Air Force. Smith was killed Jan. 3 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle near Kandahar airfield in southwest Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 10th Air Support Operations Squadron at Ft. Riley, Kan.
