The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Joseph D. Caskey, 24, of Pittsburgh; sergeant, Marine Corps. Caskey was killed June 26 when his convoy vehicle struck a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Kristopher D. Chapleau, 33, of LaGrange, Ky.; sergeant first class, Army. Chapleau died of noncombat-related injuries Wednesday at Forward Operating Base Blessing in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Daane A. Deboer, 24, of Ludington, Mich.; corporal, Marine Corps. Deboer was killed June 25 when a roadside bomb exploded near him while he was foot patrol in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Ryan J. Grady, 25, of Bristow, Okla.; private first class, Army National Guard. Grady was killed Thursday when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb near Bagram in central Afghanistan’s Parwan province, north of Kabul. He was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Bradford, Vt.

Larry D. Harris Jr., 24, of Thornton, Colo.; corporal, Marine Corps. Harris was killed Thursday when a roadside bomb exploded near him while he was on foot patrol in the Garmsir district of southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Bryant J. Haynes, 21, of Epps, La.; private first class, Army National Guard. Haynes was killed June 26 when his vehicle overturned in Diwaniya, Iraq, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 199th Brigade Support Battalion in Alexandria, La.

Matthew R. Hennigan, 20, of Las Vegas; specialist, Army. Hennigan died Wednesday at Forward Operating Base Shank in central Afghanistan’s Kabul province of injuries suffered earlier when his unit was attacked with machine gun fire in Tangi Valley. He was assigned to the 173rd Special Troops Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in Bamberg, Germany.

David A. Holmes, 34, of Tennille, Ga.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Holmes was killed June 26 when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Sayed Abad in central Afghanistan’s Wardak province, west of Kabul. He was assigned to the 810th Engineer Company in Swainsboro, Ga.

Edwardo Loredo, 34, of Houston; staff sergeant, Army. Loredo was killed June 24 when an improvised explosive device detonated near him in Jelewar in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Johnny W. Lumpkin, 38, of Columbus, Ga.; sergeant, Army. Lumpkin died Friday in Balad, Iraq, north of Baghdad, of injuries suffered a day earlier in a noncombat-related equipment incident in Taji, also north of the capital. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Morganne M. McBeth, 19, of Fredricksburg, Va.; specialist, Army. McBeth died Friday in Al Asad, Iraq, west of Baghdad, of injuries suffered a day earlier in a noncombat-related incident in Khan Al Baghdadi in Anbar province, also west of the capital. She was assigned to the 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Jared C. Plunk, 27, of Stillwater, Okla.; specialist, Army. Plunk was one of two soldiers killed June 25 when their unit was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Robert K. L. Repkie, 20, of Knoxville, Tenn.; private first class, Army. Repkie died of noncombat-related injuries June 24 at Forward Operating Base Farah in western Afghanistan’s Farah province, on the Iranian border. He was assigned to the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

William T. Richards, 20, of Trenton, Ga.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Richards was killed in combat June 26 in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

John M. Rogers, 26, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sergeant, Army. Rogers died of noncombat-related injuries June 27 at Forward Operating Base Blessing in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Eric B. Shaw, 31, of Exeter, Maine; staff sergeant, Army. Shaw was one of two soldiers killed June 27 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Brandon M. Silk, 25, of Orono, Maine; staff sergeant, Army. Silk was killed June 21 when his Black Hawk helicopter made a hard landing in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

David W. Thomas, 40, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sergeant, Army. Thomas was one of two soldiers killed June 27 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Blair D. Thompson, 19, of Rome, N.Y.; specialist, Army. Thompson was one of two soldiers killed June 25 when their unit was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
