Big Bear Lake: Creatures of the night will howl at Flashlight Safaris
Go where the wild things in October when nighttime Flashlight Safari tours step off at Moonridge Animal Park in Big Bear Lake.
The series will put the spotlight on the zoo’s nocturnal creatures — the wolves, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes and foxes which come alive after dark. Participants in the two-hour tours will get a chance to hear shrill howls fill the air and see eyes glow in the beams of flashlights.
“The zoo turns into a party of sorts,” said Debbie Richardson, the animal park’s curator. “We get coyotes howling at one end of the zoo, which in turn triggers the wolves to howl back, making it an absolute howling fest. Then we hear the owls hooting ….”
Flashlight Safari tours will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays beginning Oct. 2 and continuing through Oct. 30. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Bring a flashlight and wear warm clothing. Admission is $9 for adults, $6 for kids age 3 to 10 and free under age 3.
