Almost half of gay men who have HIV don't know they are infected, CDC says

A recent analysis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that 1 in 5 gay and bisexual men in the United States is infected with HIV and almost half of those infected are unaware of their status.

Each year about 56,300 Americans become infected with HIV and about 18,000 die from AIDS. Read the entire report at "HIV in the United States."

The CDC findings fall close to the third National Gay Men's HIV/AIDS Awareness Day being observed Monday.

The Chicago Tribune offers a look at the disease's toll in that city. Read the whole story at "Many gay men in Chicago who have HIV don't know it."
