Facebook has officially completed its acquisition of Instagram, five months after the deal was first announced.

Officials of the social network put out a release Thursday morning welcoming the social photo sharing app and that they were excited to begin working with Instagram’s team.

The company also reassured Instagram users that it intends to continue growing the mobile service.

“As we said from the beginning, we are committed to building and growing Instagram independently,” Facebook officials said online. “Instagram will continue to serve its community, and we will help Instagram continue to grow by using Facebook’s strong engineering team and infrastructure.”

Instagram also put out a blog announcing the news, saying the company’s staff will be relocating to Facebook’s offices but do not plan on closing the popular app.

“The Instagram app and its features will stay the same one you know and love, and we’ll keep working together to build a better Instagram for everyone,” the blog said.

Instagram also said that more than 5 billion photos have now been shared on its app.
