Footwear mogul Jon Buscemi buys a Los Feliz villa with celebrity pedigree

Share

Streetwear and apparel designer and entrepreneur Jon Buscemi has bought a home in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles for $2.86 million, becoming part of the fabric of one of the more celebrity-pedigreed properties in the process.

Among notable owners and tenants to have lived in the Spanish Colonial Revival villa are actresses Olivia Wilde and Natalie Portman, the Jonas Brothers’ Joe Jonas and Oscar-winning puppeteer Brian Henson.

Wilde took a loss on the property three years ago when she sold it for about $2.19 million; Henson, the son of “Muppets” creator Jim Henson, sold the house in 2003. Portman and singer-actor Jonas were renters.

Built in 1929, the tri-level home retains the elegance of the Roaring ’ 20s. A red-tile roof, white stucco walls, stained glass windows and custom ironwork are among the classic details. Original Malibu tile creates visual interest inside and out.

A living room topped with beamed ceilings, a screening room with an original bar, a library/study, four bedrooms, three full bathrooms and a powder room lie within nearly 3,300 square feet of interiors. The master suite has a balcony and a view of downtown L.A.

Outdoors, the hedged and fenced grounds include a waterfall spa, terraced gardens and a gazebo. A gated courtyard dressed in Saltillo tile sits off the front entry.

The house came up for sale in March for $2.795 million and was more recently listed at $2.889 million, records show. Ryan Sarkissian of Compass California handled both ends of the transaction.

Buscemi, a former stockbroker on Wall Street, worked at DC Shoe Co. and Lotto USA before launching the footwear brand Gourmet in 2006. His founded the eponymous label Buscemi in 2013.
