Ed Weinberger sells estate for $9.9 million

Ed Weinberger, one of the creators of “The Cosby Show,” and his wife, television actress Carlene Watkins, have sold their home in a gated Los Angeles community for $9.875 million.

The 11,600-square-foot Georgian-style mansion sits on 5 acres with canyon, mountain and San Fernando Valley views. Features include a two-story entry with a sweeping staircase, herringbone-patterned wood floors, a media room with a bar, two offices, a library, a wine cellar and a gym/dance studio. There are five fireplaces, six bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

A swimming pool, an outdoor kitchen and a one-bedroom guesthouse are on the grounds.

In addition to writing for two Bill Cosby series and “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,” Weinberger wrote for stand-up comedians, including Dick Gregory and Richard Pryor. The Emmy winner is a creator and writer for the series “Belle’s.” Watkins appeared on the 1980s shows “Bob,” “Dear John” and “The Tortellis.”

The property came on the market in March at $12.5 million.

The Los Angeles Times Mapping Database defines the community as Sherman Oaks; the Multiple Listing Service describes it as Bel-Air.

Billy Rose, Jeeb O’Reilly and Mauricio Umansky of the Agency were the listing agents. Lynn Teschner of Coldwell Banker’s Beverly Hills South office represented the buyer.
