Marlon Brando’s onetime home in Hollywood Hills sells for $2.73 million
A Hollywood Hills residence where Oscar-winning actor Marlon Brando once made his home has sold for $2.73 million.
The Paul Williams-designed home, built in 1939 and well preserved over the years, has a pedigree that one might describe as limber. Besides the legendary parties thrown by Brando during his ownership, which began in the early 1950s and spanned more than a decade, the property was later used as the site for a yoga center. Actor Stacy Keach, actress Tina Louise and singers Carole King and James Taylor are among those who frequented the studio.
Through the years, other occupants have included rock star Frank Zappa, actress Barbara Hershey and “Kung Fu” actor David Carradine.
The traditional-style home, set behind gates on two-thirds of an acre, has living and dining rooms, a sunroom, an updated kitchen, six bedrooms and five bathrooms in more than 4,000 square feet of space. A bookshelf in the study can be moved to reveal a hidden room — a feature of the architect’s Prohibition-era designs.
Outdoors, tall bamboo creates a backdrop for a barbecue area, a sports court and swimming pool. Two gated entrances sit off the entrance of the home.
The house was more recently listed for sale at $2.995 million, records show. It previously changed hands nine years ago for $2.15 million.
Joe Babajian of Rodeo Realty was the listing agent. Marko Babineau of Gibson International represented the buyer.
