Ex-S.F. 49er Ray McDonald sells Bay Area home for $2.81 million

Former San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald has sold his home in south San Jose for $2.81 million.

The Tudor-inspired home, built in 1999, features a two-story foyer, a billiards/game room and a custom pool with a spa, a swim-up bar, a grotto and a water slide.

Some 4,827 square feet of space includes formal living and dining rooms, a center-island kitchen, an office, a home theater, four bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. Two floors of living take in views of the surrounding mountains and the Silver Creek Valley Country Club.

Outdoors, grounds of more than an acre contain two covered patios, an outdoor living room and a fire ring. A built-in barbecue sits adjacent to the pool.

The home came on the market in January for $2,949,888, records show. McDonald bought the house in 2012 for $1.82 million.

Robert R. Fernandez of Atlas Realty was the listing agent. Ellen Ashley of Alain Pinel Realtors represented the buyer in the sale.

McDonald, 30, was released by the 49ers in December after the San Jose Police Department announced that the eight-year veteran was being investigated in a possible sexual assault. He was cleared of wrongdoing in April, and in March he signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears. However, he was released after another arrest in a domestic violence case in late May.

McDonald was arrested again that same week on suspicion of violating a restraining order.

A third-round draft choice out of Florida in 2007, McDonald has 19.5 sacks and 154 tackles in 115 career games with San Francisco.
