Top sales: Nerdist host Chris Hardwick buys a storied estate in Los Feliz

A storied estate in Los Feliz, a Hidden Hills Traditional and a modern Mediterranean in Arcadia were among the most expensive residential real estate sales in the greater Los Angeles area last week.

$11 million — Los Feliz

Television host and comedian Chris Hardwick and media heiress Lydia Hearst, who are engaged to be married next summer, paid $11 million for an Italianate-style home designed by noted architect Paul Williams.

Built in 1928, the house came to market in September for $12 million and was under contract in about a month.

Sited on a hilltop of close to half an acre, the three-story residence is distinguished by such details as Corinthian columns, elaborate hand-carved ceilings and a grand entry with a curving staircase.

Formal living and dining rooms, a den/library, a media room, a gym and a wine room make up the 8,240 square feet of space. There are eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms in all.

Barry Sloane and Marc Silver of Sotheby’s International Realty were the listing agents. Sharon Hills of Kobeissi Properties represented the buyers.

$7.59 million — Brentwood

An East Coast-inspired Traditional on about half an acre in the 100 block of South Cliffwood Avenue sold after being listed for sale in February for $7.995 million.

Built in 1989, the 8,279-square-foot house has two gated entrances that open to a circular driveway.

Three floors of living contain a formal dining room, a gym, a wine cellar, a center-island kitchen, seven bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms. There are fireplaces in the family and living rooms, the den, the library and the master bedroom.

Outdoors, a raised patio overlooks grounds containing a large expanse of grass and a swimming pool.

Mary Lu Tuthill of Coldwell Residential Brokerage was the listing agent. Jeffrey Nowinski and Charles Pence of Partners Trust Real Estate represented the buyer.

$7.245 million — Hidden Hills

Howard Tenenbaum, the vice president of Van Nuys-based Keyes Automotive Group, sold a Traditional-style home in the 24000 block of Long Valley Road for $450,000 less than the asking price.

The two-story home in a gated community was built in 2002 and has formal gardens, horse facilities, a sports court and a swimming pool and spa on a flat 1.56-acre lot.

Within the 8,512 square feet of living space is a chandelier-topped foyer with two staircases, a home theater, an office, six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. A sitting room, two walk-in closets and a fireplace highlight the master suite.

Marc and Rory Shevin of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California properties were the listing agents. Marc Shevin also repped the buyer.

$6.6 million — La Cañada Flintridge

Bob Keegan, the former chairman, president and chief executive at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., sold a 9,514-square-foot home in the 4000 block of Chevy Chase Drive. The house, built in 2003, had been listed at $7.695 million.

Sited on a one-acre knoll, the two-story home behind gates centers on sweeping mountain and city views.

The 9,514 square feet of living space on two floors is highlighted by eight-foot French doors, raised ceilings and an open-plan kitchen with an island/breakfast bar.

A total of seven bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms includes a two-bedroom guest house. An infinity-edge swimming pool and spa, an outdoor kitchen and a cabana are within the grounds.

Sandra Saeger of Dilbeck Real Estate repped both sides of the transaction.

$6.05 million — Arcadia

In the 1400 block of Rancho Road, a neo-classical Mediterranean-style home with a tennis court sold after relisting in May for $6.98 million.

Marked by a wide circular driveway, the two-story house in the Santa Anita Oaks neighborhood features such details as inlaid marble flooring, vaulted ceilings and Italian crown molding.

The 9,800 square feet of space is entered through a grand foyer topped by a domed ceiling that opens to a formal living room and an adjacent den. A family room, a theater room, an office, a chef’s kitchen and a wok kitchen are among the other living spaces.

The master suite boasts two walk-in closets, a cedar-lined sauna and a soaking tub for a total of seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

Outdoors, grounds of about three-quarters of an acre center on a resort-style swimming pool complete with a spa and waterfall feature. A tennis court, formal landscaping and Travertine-lined patio complete the setting.

Anna Wang of Keller Williams Market Center had the listing. Hangjun Zhang of North American Real Estate Investment Group was the buyer’s agent.

$5.378 million — Pasadena

A New England-inspired Traditional on about half an acre sold in the 900 block of Hillcrest Place following eight price chops over the past seven months. The house, designed by architect Christopher Ward, had been listed for as much as $6.688 million, according to the Multiple Listing Service.

Built in 2013, the two-story home features crisp white interiors, detailed wall treatments, custom built-ins and rows of casement and double-hung windows.

Among living spaces are formal living and dining rooms, a great room and a library. Five bedrooms and five bathrooms include two master suites. There are four fireplaces.

French doors open to a covered patio with a wall fireplace. A swimming pool and spa sit between the main house and a pool house with an attached garage.

Maureen Hollingsworth of Sotheby’s International Realty was the listing agent. Brent Chang of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage repped the buyer.

These are among the top residential real estate sales reported on the combined L.A./Westside Multiple Listing Service for Oct. 25 to Oct. 31.
