Ryan Reynolds sells in Hollywood Hills West
Perhaps closing out some old business, actor Ryan Reynolds has sold a home in Hollywood Hills West for $1.405 million.
The leading man bought the property in his bachelor days for $1.749 million and in recent years had leased it out at $5,200 a month.
Entered through a walled and gated courtyard, the Traditional-style home has been updated with solar heating, tankless hot water and impact-resistant French doors. The 1,789 square feet of space includes open-concept living areas, two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.
The third-acre-plus lot, near the end of a cul-de-sac, features patio space, a landscaped yard and walkways. There are canyon views.
Reynolds, 37, has starred in such films as “Safe House” (2012), “Green Lantern” (2011) and “The Change-Up” (2011). He stars this year in the thriller “The Captive.”
Of late, he has been in New Orleans filming “Mississippi Grind.” Reynolds was recently named a celebrity spokesmodel for L’Oreal Paris Men.
He was married to actress Scarlett Johansson from 2008-11 and is now the husband of actress Blake Lively of “Gossip Girl” fame.

Bel-Air estate asks $43 million
The Doheny estate in Bel-Air has come on the market at $43 million, making it one of the 10 most expensive homes in Los Angeles County currently on the Multiple Listing Service.
Encompassing more than 3.5 acres, the 10,000-square-foot mansion was home to the late William H. Doheny Sr. and his wife, Onnalee. He was the grandson of oil baron Edward L. Doheny, who successfully drilled the first well in Los Angeles in the late 1800s and sparked a boom.
The Hollywood Regency-style house, built by the couple in 1963, features a formal entry, a great room, a formal dining room, a family room with a fireplace, a bar, a billiard room, a card room, a den/office, eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Views take in the cityscape and extend to the ocean.
Brick decking surrounds the outdoor swimming pool. There’s on-site parking for 20 cars.
Among the neighbors is former First Lady Nancy Reagan.

Cutting a tie to Laguna Beach
Reality star and fashion designer Lauren Conrad has listed a bluff-top home in Laguna Beach’s Three Arch Bay area at $2.795 million.
Set on a cul-de-sac two doors from the bluff, the Cape Cod-inspired home was built in 1966 and recently remodeled. The 2,280 square feet of living space have a shabby-chic beach-house vibe with bleached walnut floors, light-colored interiors and lots of natural light.
The home features a great room with a fireplace, a dining room, three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
A front deck has what’s known in real estate circles as a “peek-a-boo” view of the ocean. A swimming pool sits in the backyard.
Conrad, 28, was born and raised in Laguna Beach and co-starred in the reality show “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County” (2004-05). She then moved to Los Angeles and starred in “The Hills” (2006-09).
More recently, Conrad, who has her own clothing lines, has appeared on “Fashion News Live” and “Entertainment Tonight.”
She bought the property in 2009 for $2 million, public records show.

TV host’s retreat: That’s amazing
Huell Howser’s house in Twentynine Palms has come on the market at $395,000. Proceeds from the sale of the late travelogue host’s desert retreat will go to Chapman University in Orange, where his work is archived.
The Midcentury Modern home has 2,221 square feet of living space that Howser renovated after he bought the property more than 15 years ago for $160,000. He infused the interiors with industrial-style minimalist details, including concrete kitchen counters and floors, stainless-steel baseboards and a master bath sink made by inverting a vintage streetlight fixture.
The 1953 house, which retains its original exterior and footprint, features walls of glass and a wood-burning fireplace in the living room, a breakfast bar, two bedrooms, a den/office and 2.5 bathrooms.
The garage was converted to entertainment space.
A swimming pool, a spa and a fire pit are among exterior amenities. But perhaps the areas of the grounds that are most amazing, to use his oft-spoken adjective, are the sculpture gardens he created of found objects from his travels.
The property includes five lots for a combined 11.9 acres. An additional 71 acres Howser bought from former Angels owner Jackie Autry are also for sale.
Howser died last year at 67. He is remembered for his ever-present charm and expressions of wide-eyed wonder on the more than two-decades-long television series “California’s Gold,” which took viewers to notable locales throughout the state.
