WWDC 2012: Apple drops 17-inch MacBook Pro, updates Mac Pro
At Apple’s WWDC keynote address Monday morning, the company announced some big changes to a few of its computers. But they weren’t the only changes made to Apple’s line of Macs.
Apple has dropped its line of 17-inch MacBook Pros and has updated its Mac Pro line, with three new models.
The company made no mention of the 17-inch computer at its keynote address, but what’s worse is the computer is now all but gone from its website (except in the refurbished section). The other MacBook Pros, on the other hand, remain there and are glowing with a “NEW” tag hovering above them.
When asked about the 17-inch MacBook Pros, Apple simply replied with a link to this page, saying “this page has the specs for the current MacBook Pro line.”
With Apple updating its 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pros as well as introducing a new 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, it looks like Apple is shedding the 17-inch and simply replacing it with the new Retina Pro. Any people wanting to get a 17-inch Pro should buy one now before supplies run out.
But that wasn’t Apple’s only silent change Monday. The company has also placed the “NEW” tag on its line of Mac Pros.
The Apple line of Mac Pros had not been updated since 2010, but the new models featured online are definitely new. Now, customers can choose from three Mac Pro computers, ranging from $2,499 to $3,799.
At the low end of the spectrum, the cheapest Mac Pro has a 3.2-GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor along with 6 GB of RAM. It also comes with 1 TB of storage.
There’s also the $3,799 model, which features two 2.4-GHz 6-core Intel Xeon processor, 12 GB of RAM and the same 1 TB drive.
The final version of the Mac Pro is a server for $2,999. It’s equipped with a 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
processor, 8 GB of RAM and two 1 TB drives of storage.
