Apple, Samsung CEOs talk, reach no settlement
After being ordered by a judge to talk one last time, Apple and Samsung’s CEOs spoke on the phone Monday. But once again, they failed to reach a settlement in their patent-infringement dispute.
Samsung attorney Kevin Johnson informed U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh late Monday that the two sides had spoken.
But “there was no resolution,” Johnson told Koh, according to The Verge.
With no settlement having been reached, the trial in the case is now set to reach its final stages. Both sides are expected to deliver their closing arguments Tuesday in San Jose, and on Wednesday, the jury is expected to begin its deliberations.
On Monday, the opposing lawyers were still working hard to gain any advantage they could before the case went to the jury.
According to The Verge, both tech companies went over a 22-page document that will be used by the jury to reach its conclusion.
Samsung also scored a victory as Koh said she was ready to tell the jury that both companies had shown neglect with their handling of evidence.
That was a win for Samsung since last month another judge had ruled that the jury should be told Samsung had mishandled evidence, potentially giving the South Korean company a disadvantage.
The trial began last month, but was set up a year ago when Apple sued Samsung, accusing the South Korean company of copying its mobile-device designs. Samsung responded with a countersuit.
