Beats announces Pill portable speaker, Executive headphones

Share

Beats, the Dr. Dre headphones company, announced two new products Tuesday: the Pill portable speaker and a line of Executive headphones.

The Pill is a $199 portable speaker not much bigger than a cucumber. It features four individual speaker drivers and can connect to devices via Bluetooth, Near-Field Communication technology (also known as NFC) or a cable. The speaker charges through USB and has a battery life of seven hours. It’s available in red, black and white.

Beats’ speaker will be going toe to toe with the Jawbone Jambox, a similarly sized speaker that retails for the same price but is offered for less at various outlets.

In addition to the Pill, Beats also announced its new line of Executive headphones. The headphones retail for $299.95 and are made with higher-quality material than some of the company’s other headphones. The material used includes stainless steel, brushed aluminum and hand-stitched leatherette.

“The same person that recognizes the difference between a Swatch watch and a Rolex will gravitate to this,” Beats President and COO Luke Wood told the Los Angeles Times.

The Executive headphones include a hard-shell carrying case, run on two AAA batteries, feature Apple’s in-line cable remote and microphone and connect with a 3.5-millimeter audio cable.

Both products are available for purchase now.
