If you wait until December, you can get the new Mac Pro for just under $3,000.

But why wait to a buy a machine that any chump can get their hands on? Instead, head over to Sotheby’s, which is having a special Product (RED) fundraiser co-hosted by some guy named Bono who is in some band that used to be popular, designer Marc Newson and Apple’s Jony Ive.

Yep, THAT Jony Ive. Apple’s design demigod.

The three of them have selected a number of objects to be auctioned off, including solid gold Apple earbuds. But at an estimated $20,000 to $25,000, such trifles are for mere peasants.

No, what you really want to impress is the special Red Mac Pro, which is predicted to go for $40,000 to $60,000.

The auction proceeds go to Bono’s Product (RED) charity, which helps fight AIDS around the globe. Apple has been a longtime partner, raising $65 million for the organization since 2006.
