Hollywood Headlines: a crazy week in review

Does “Gossip Girl” star Taylor Momsen really love traveling with knives? She seemed to say so in an interview with a U.K. newspaper but her reps are saying no, no, just ain’t so. If you don’t know, knives are a hot topic in Old Blighty at the moment, what with lots of people dying from knife attacks -- so Momsen talking about how she carries them in her purse and gets them through airport security sets off alarm bells over there. Jerry Seinfeld performed in Nashville last Friday and has donated all the proceeds to flood relief efforts. The show -- sold out, too, showing Tennesseans have a great ability to overcome -- wasn’t planned as a charity event as it was booked ages ago. Elizabeth Taylor came out swinging in defense of longtime BFF Michael Jackson when his doctor supported one of the doc’s employees’ claims that he’d had a gay love affair with Jackson. Every week seems to bring with it news of a celebrity divorce and this week it’s Matt Lauer and his wife/model Annette Roque. Annette filed for separation from Matt back in 2006 but they appeared to have patched things up. It seems that Miley Cyrus is desperate to let us know there’s a skank inside of her just waiting to get out and shake her thing. First came the stripper pole at the Teen Choice Awards, then came the movie role about the girl who shoplifted, then came the official video for her new single “Can’t Be Tamed.” Filled with lots of shots of her dancing with guys and girls and showing off some cleavage -- Wooh! Who can tame that?! -- it still added up to the same old same old. So now there’s an “unofficial” video that shows her grinding around with “Last Song” producer Adam Shankman during a wrap party. When you’re the star of a hit TV show and you’re walking the red carpet you pretty much feel you’ve arrived. So what to do when a photographer doesn’t recognize you and dares ask your name? Well, Glee star Lea Michelle thought the most adult route would be to give him a bunch of fake names like Sarah Palin and Taylor Swift. Thing is, Lea didn’t realize the photographer she was messing with was top party photographer Patrick McMullan. Oops. When you’re accused of having sex with an underage prostitute then beating her up a little, you want to come up with a good line of defense. Call it what you will but the one that Lawrence Taylor might be going with revolves around “I only touched myself.” Yep, according to a source close to the star, Taylor will be saying that he chose to go with his own helping hand rather than going near the prostitute -- and that her beating came from the pimp. Hit a photographer, pay the dues. Sean Penn was sentenced to 300 hours of community service in May due to an altercation with a pap in October of 2009.
