Free screening of ‘Pretty in Pink’

The Los Angeles Film Festival will present a free outdoor screening of “Pretty in Pink” in downtown L.A. on Tuesday as a promotional kickoff for this year’s festival, the lineup for which is to be announced earlier that day.

Howard Deutch, who directed the 1986 film, and Jon Cryer, one of its stars, will attend, organizers said. The movie will be shown at 7 p.m. in the Nokia Plaza at L.A. Live, across the street from Staples Center. A beer and wine garden opens at 5 p.m.

Tickets will be on sale for the film festival, which runs June 16 through 26 and also will be centered at L.A. Live.
