Sylvester Stallone on Sage’s death: ‘You try to get through it’

Sylvester Stallone asked for privacy in July after his son Sage died, but with “The Expendables 2” about to open, the action star is back in the spotlight and saying a few words.

His 36-year-old son’s passing was “tough,” Stallone said Tuesday on “Good Morning America,” where he appeared with his “Expendables” costars. “It’s very, very tough.”

Still, life goes on. “If you have good friends and your family support, it’s just something that — it’s a horrible situation — but time hopefully will heal and you try to get through it,” he said.

“It’s something that’s a reality of life.”

Reality hit Sly Stallone hard July 13, when Sage Stallone’s body was found at the latter’s Studio City home. The cause of death is still under investigation, though foul play was not suspected. Police were looking into the source of large, empty prescription pill bottles that were found at the home, and results of toxicology tests are still pending from an autopsy conducted shortly after the body was found.

“This agonizing loss will be felt for the rest of our lives,” Stallone said in a statement at the time. “Sage was our first child and the center of our universe and I am humbly begging for all to have my son’s memory and soul left in peace.”

A month later, Sylvester Stallone was calm as he joined his “Expendables” buddies, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren, to promote the upcoming film. Though Stallone directed the first installment, honors for the sequel went to Simon West of “Con Air” fame.

Stallone said: “I think it’s important to get back and try to start reliving your life, otherwise you can go into a spiral.”

“The Expendables 2” has its U.S. premiere Thursday, then hits theaters nationwide Friday. Stallone and the gang appeared Monday at the flick’s Britain premiere in London.
