Gwyneth Paltrow to executive-produce Stand Up 2 Cancer telecast

Gwyneth Paltrow is adding another job title to her resume: executive producer. The actress has been hired to oversee this year’s Stand Up 2 Cancer television fundraiser.

And while it may seem another accomplishment to stick on her well-stocked refrigerator, the gig will also be a tribute to her late father: prolific television producer Bruce Paltrow.

“This broadcast has become a global call-to-action for all those touched by cancer,” Paltrow said in a statement.

“Like so many people, I know what it’s like to lose a family member to this disease, and I’m honored to stand up in my father’s memory.”

Bruce, who produced shows such as “St. Elsewhere,” died in 2002 due to complications of oral cancer. Gwyneth has spoken about his influence on her life at length in interviews and in her bestselling cookbook “My Father’s Daughter.”

Last September, when she won an Emmy for her guest work on “Glee,” she touched on the award’s importance to her family.

Her producer father “was nominated nine times and lost, so the Emmys are important for us Paltrows,” she said at the time. No doubt taking on her own producing gig is a fitting tribute.

Paltrow will work alongside TV director Joel Gallen for the Sept. 7 event, a live show that brings together top talent in the arts and airs simultaneously across the major broadcast networks and many cable stations.
