Kendall Jenner: Too skinny? Not so, she says
Is Kendall Jenner too skinny? The second-youngest daughter in the Kardashian-Jenner clan is piping up about detractors who think she’s too thin.
“I’m constantly criticized for being too skinny,” the 17-year-old told Harper’s Bazaar Arabia (via the Daily Mail). “I’m trying to gain weight but my body won’t let it happen. What people don’t understand is that calling someone too skinny is the same as calling someone too fat. It’s not a nice feeling.”
Even half-sister Khloé Kardashian Odom called Jenner a “supermodel who eats crap all day!”
For the record, it’s still a problem we’d like to have.
Jenner, the daughter of Olympian Bruce Jenner and Kardashian “momager” Kris Jenner, signed with prominent modeling agency Wilelmina in 2010. She’s been working to carve out a career path independent of her famous half-sisters Kourtney, Kim and Khloé Kardashian, who pretty much jump-started Jenner’s career by association. Jenner also worked on a clothing line for PacSun with younger sister Kylie Jenner, 15 (unrelated to her sisters’ Kardashian Kollection for Sears). But it doesn’t mean she’s saying no to the competition that comes along with being related to someone famous.
“I’m trying my best with what I want to do, which is modeling. I think I’m on my own career path and I don’t really care what other people have to say about me being in the spotlight of my sisters,” she told the mag. “I’m just doing my own thing.”
And it seems like she’ll get family support no matter what she decides on. Sister Kim Kardashian touted her younger sibling’s Harper’s shoot in which she showcased designs from Gucci, Calvin Klein, Roberto Cavalli and Marc Jacobs, according to the Daily Mail.
“Kendall’s Harper’s Bazaar Arabia spread is so stunning! She did an amazing job and the photos turned out absolutely gorgeous. Xo,” the pregnant reality starlet posted on her blog.
“How gorgeous does Kendall look in her Harper’s Bazaar Arabia spread?!?” wrote Khloé Kardashian Odom. “I cannot get over these pics! She is absolutely breathtaking!!!!”
Each of her sisters serves a different role in her life, Jenner adds.
“I go to them for different things,” she said. “Khloé is like my second mom, so whenever my little sister and I are fighting or we’re fighting with our parents, we call Khloé. Kourtney is very realistic with things. She will tell you the cold, hard truth, even if it will make you cry, so whatever you’re dealing with, if you want to talk to her, she’ll be very realistic. Then Kim is supersmart and really tech-savvy, too. She’s been through a lot, so we can go to Kim with anything and she’ll have literally the best advice.”
Despite being filmed on E!'s “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” since age 11, the lithe stunner said she isn’t as outgoing as her famous siblings. She admits she used to be very shy but said her younger sister, Kylie, helped bring her out of her shell.
“I am still pretty shy but I’ve gotten much better because I’m always on set for photo shoots and I’m always filming with my family,” Jenner said. “My little sister would always be the one to bring me out of my little phase because she was so outgoing and, like, crazy. I wanted to be like her and looked up to my little sister. She helped me come out more.”
As for that pesky spotlight that she’s in because of her family, Jenner said she’s still trying to keep her personal life out of the public eye.
“I’m a very loyal and very private person when it comes to my personal life. But I obviously do have Twitter and Instagram, and I will share some of the things I’m doing,” she said. “I like to promote my work when I’m at a photo shoot. I love to take pictures of myself or with the crew. But my personal life, I try to keep to myself as much as I can. I mean, I do get that I have a reality TV show, so it’s kind of contradicting myself, but at the same time, I’m trying to stay a little more private.”
