‘Child’s Pose’ a ferocious look at mother-son dynamic

If you missed the remarkable “Child’s Pose” during its one week at the Nuart in West Los Angeles (it ends Thursday), the movie gods have given you a reprieve. This Romanian winner of the Berlin film festival’s Golden Bear moves on Friday to Laemmle’s Monica 4 in Santa Monica and Playhouse 7 in Pasadena.

Confidently directed by Calin Peter Netzer, “Child’s Pose” benefits from a spectacular performance by Luminita Gheorghiu, seen in the award-winning “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu.” A ferocious psychological drama with the pace of a thriller, “Child’s Pose” mixes a compelling personal story about mothers and sons with an examination of sociopolitical dynamics in a way that is both intense and piercingly real.
