Video premiere: Lord Huron's 'Ends of the Earth'

Over the last year, Lord Huron has quietly become one of the breakout stories of L.A. indie music. Like their kindred spirits Local Natives, the experimental folk project has road-dogged its way to selling out two nights at the Fonda Theatre earlier this year.

Ben Schneider and his bandmates have cultivated a bit of Old West mystery along the way, and Lord Huron’s new video for “Ends of the Earth” elaborates on that with a gorgeously animated new clip.

Director Kevin Donelan spins a silhouetted tale of an outlaw’s lost love on the railroads.

The imagery is a natural fit for a band that owes a lot to Gram Parsons. But the mix of precise, minimal cut-out work and panoramic backdrops makes an old genre feel new.

The single is off the band’s 2012 album “Lonesome Dreams,” released on the L.A. indie IAMSOUND. The band’s next California dates are in July at the High Sierra Music Festival, a rustic venue that’s about an hour outside of Reno -- and a locale probably best visited by railcar with a sad folk song (and this video) on repeat.
