The first thing longtime Taylor Swift fans may observe about “Sweeter Than Fiction” -- the pop-country superstar’s contribution to the upcoming movie “One Chance,” which dramatizes the story of “Britain’s Got Talent” winner Paul Potts -- is how tight a grip Swift has on an early ‘80s new wave sound that originated well before she was born.

You remember Potts, don’t you?

The clip of this appealingly pudgy Englishman auditioning for Simon Cowell with Puccini’s “Nessun dorma” is a classic of the viral-video age, with more than 116 million views on YouTube. (Confession: It can still coax a tear from our collective eye.)

But a whole movie based on this dude? And one directed by the guy who made, uh, “Marley & Me”? We did not see that coming.

Anyway, as for “Sweeter Than Fiction,” Swift co-wrote the song with Jack Antonoff of Fun., who evidently helped her get in touch with her inner Thompson Twin. Have a listen below.
