As is the case when famous people suffer embarrassing misfortune, the Internet erupted Monday morning when a clip of Solange Knowles apparently attacking her brother-in-law Jay Z in an elevator landed online. The clip, published by TMZ, appeared to show Solange, her sister Beyonce, Jay Z and a host of bodyguards entering an elevator to leave the Met Gala in New York City. Then, quickly, Solange apparently loses her temper and goes for Jay Z, and chaos ensues.

Predictably, the clip has prompted much Twitter chatter, and within a few hours had already generated a host of memes looking to comment on the incident. The hashtag #whatjayzsaidtosolange started trending early as fans imagined the moments just prior to the attack. What had the rapper done that sparked such a reaction?

Speculated one: “How are you getting home?”

For karmic reasons, it’s ill-advised to laugh at others’ lesser moments. Who, after all, hasn’t had to fend off a sister-in-law’s rage after attending a big-ticket art fundraiser? As Leo Tolstoy famously wrote about relationships, “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” The Carter-Knowles’ clan just had the misfortune of revealing a moment of discord on camera in 2014.

Below, some of the better reactions (so far) to one family’s momentary façade collapse, via Photoshopped memes.
