Tegan and Sara release new video for ‘Boyfriend’

There’s nothing like a few giant, fluffy puppies to really bring a music video home.

The twin-sister synth-pop duo Tegan and Sara have a new video out for their single “Boyfriend,” and it’s got fuzzy charm to spare. Directed by the band’s frequent collaborator Clea DuVall, in the video the Quinn sisters get green-screened into some silly settings (space, beach party, a field of zebras), instructed in proper party technique and accompanied by a couple of goofball pups.

It’s low-key and charming, and just about everything you’d want to cheer you up after a really rough week in music news.

The song comes off their new June 3 album “Love You To Death,” which looks to be a winning successor to their last LP, “Heartthrob.” That album credibly updated their sound for a synth-funk style now shared by peers like Carly Rae Jepsen and Haim, but the Quinns’ songwriting remains some of the sharpest of the lot.

The band plays the Roxy on May 2 and Teragram on May 3, so expect one of the better post-Prince dance parties for going out that week.
