U2 reschedules Paris dates postponed after terrorist attacks

U2’s performances in Paris that were postponed because of the terrorist attacks on Nov. 13 have been rescheduled for Dec. 6 and 7, the latter to be cablecast worldwide by HBO.

“So much that was taken from Paris on the tragic night of November 13th is irreplaceable,” U2 lead singer Bono said in a statement. “For one night, the killers took lives, took music, took peace of mind — but they couldn’t steal the spirit of that city.

“It’s a spirit our band knows well and will try to serve when we return for the postponed shows on December 6th and 7th,” Bono said. “We’re going to put on our best for Paris.”

The Paris stop on U2’s Innocence + Experience Tour had been scheduled for Nov. 14 and 15, but the band called off the shows after the attacks, during which terrorists killed more than 100 people, the majority of them attending an Eagles of Death Metal concert at the Bataclan Theater in Paris.

Shortly after those attacks, Bono noted that “This is the first direct hit on music that we’ve had in this so-called War on Terror, or whatever it’s called. It’s very upsetting. These are our people. This could be me at a show, you at a show, in that venue.”

Tour promoter Arthur Fogel, also in a statement, said, “The band wanted us to reschedule as soon as possible so that they could honour the commitment to their audience.”

The Dec. 7 show will be filmed live and shown on that date at 9 p.m. in each time zone it is carried in by HBO.
