About 20,000 visitors from around the world were expected at the Wave Gotik music festival in Leipzig, Germany. It ran from June 9-13, 2011, and is one of the biggest gatherings of Goth scene followers in Europe. Many wear elaborate outfits and make-up that require hours of preparation and depart from the traditional black of the Goth scene. Punk remains a strong influence, but newer trends such as Cybergoth and Steampunk have emerged that blend bold colors, Victorian fashion elegance and 19th and 20th century factory accessories. The festival included performances by around 200 bands.
