‘Frozen’ special promises news of Anna and Elsa’s future

Disney is pulling back the curtain a bit for an upcoming behind-the-scenes special on the making of “Frozen.” And to sweeten the deal, it’s promising news about the future for Anna, Elsa and the rest of the inhabitants of the kingdom of Arendelle.

“The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic” will air on ABC on Sept. 2. The special promises a look inside Disney Animation Studios, featuring interviews with cast members Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, composers Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and executive producer John Lasseter.

But what fans really want to hear is what’s next for the characters they loved so much the movie became the highest grossing animated film of all time. The film was released in November and has grossed more than $1.2 billion worldwide.

Fans have been clamoring for a sequel, but so far Disney has downplayed talk about following up on one of their biggest hits. There’s a Broadway musical in the works, and a series of sequel books that are due out January. Anna, Elsa and Kristoff are set to make an appearance in an episode of “Once Upon a Time,” also on ABC, and though fans will be given a peek at that episode during the special, it’s not the same as a true sequel.

Meanwhile, the special will also preview Disney’s next animated feature, “Big Hero 6.”

So will Disney help make “Frozen” fans’ dreams come true or should they just... let it go?
