Nik Wallenda successfully completes Chicago tightrope stunts

Daredevil Nik Wallenda successfully completed his tightrope-walking stunts Sunday night between Chicago skyscrapers.

Just before 7:45 p.m. Central time, Wallenda completed the first part of the stunt: He walked a tightrope about 600 feet in the air across the Chicago River between Marina City’s west tower and the Leo Burnett Building. That part took about 10 minutes.

The tightrope was originally supposed to be at a 15-degree angle, but because of wire-tension issues, the incline was upped to 19 degrees, the Chicago Tribune reported.

About 8:05, he completed the second part: He returned to the west tower of Marina City and walked another tightrope between the west tower and the east tower while blindfolded.

The event was being broadcast live on Discovery as “Skyscraper Live with Nik Wallenda.”

Before his walks, Wallenda spoke to the crowd, noting the wind and cold. The weather “feels good,” he said, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Times staff writer Patrick Kevin Day contributed to this report.
