Bill Maher, another veteran comic, hosted "Politically Incorrect" on Comedy Central from 1993 until 1997, when the show moved to ABC. It was canceled in 2002 after controversial comments were made on the show following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher" now airs on Fridays and features interviews and panel discussions with prominent political and media figures, and Maher's comic monologues. But "Real Time" airs only once a week, and Maher's vacation schedule would make almost anyone jealous. Maher's best bit: "New Rules," a biting essay that closes each show.

It’s going to be a long, dull summer without Jon Stewart

Dennis Miller

If Stewart’s absence is seen as an opportunity, there’s no telling which network might greenlight a competing show. There’s the possibility that Dennis Miller, left, with Jon Stewart, could land another series, maybe on Fox News, where his obscure references to arcane literature might not go over that well. Then again, the conservative comic already has his own syndicated radio show.   (Larry Busacca / Getty Images for NARAS)

Dennis Rodman

Given his recent foray into international relations, his love of the spotlight and his appearance on “This Week With George Stephanopoulos,” maybe Dennis Rodman will throw his hat (or some other adornment) into the ring.  (Lorenzo Bevilaqua / Associated Press)
