Issa London designer Daniella Helayel, who created the highly publicized blue dress worn by Kate Middleton on the occasion of her engagement announcement, is leaving the label she founded, the company announced Thursday. She will be succeeded by Blue Farrier. Helayel will remain as a consultant through the end of the year, and oversee the Issa for Banana Republic collection hitting stores Aug. 13.

The Abercrombie & Fitch firestorm continues with its CEO posting an apology on Facebook, and critics of its no-sizes-over-10 policy saying its not enough.

The new CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund collection for J Crew hit JCrew.com on Wednesday, with a strong showing from Los Angeles -- dip-dyed cashmere sweaters ($398) and a beach blanket ($1,498) from L.A.’s Elder Statesman and geometric jewelry ($138 to $298) by L.A. designer Jennifer Meyer Macguire that’s inspired by husband Tobey’s latest film, “The Great Gatsby.”

Representatives from luxury Swiss watch maison Vacheron Constantin were in Los Angeles on Thursday night for a preview of “James Turrell: A Retrospective.” Vacheron is a sponsor of the exhibition opening Saturday at LACMA, which showcases 50 years of the Southern California artist’s extraordinary light and space sculptures. In the course of speaking to Turrell, Hugues de Pins, Vacheron’s North American president, discovered the artist actually owns a few vintage Vacheron Constantin pocket watches. How’s that for synergy?

Sure, we’ve called out the commander in chief for his questionable fashion choices in the past (dad jeans, anyone?), but even we have to grant full immunity when it comes to prom pictures. The photos, recently posted by Time magazine, depict the future president sporting a white jacket and a blue tone-on-tone shirt and tie combination. Given that the year was 1979, things could have been much, much worse. [Time]

Meanwhile, in Cannes, the 11-day fashion parade continues. Thai-British actress Araya A. Hargate caused a stir at the premiere of the film “All is Lost,” shimmying for cameras in a dark blue fringe halter-neck evening gown by Salvatore Ferragamo. Ferragamo, incidentally, will sponsor the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts’ inaugural gala Oct. 17 in Beverly Hills, with co-chairs Brad Pitt and Robert Redford. So expect a lot more shimmying to come.
