10 Pounds in 10 Days: Can I do it? Day 6

(Editor’s note: Writer Mary MacVean tried out trainer Jackie Warner’s diet plan from her new book “10 Pounds in 10 Days.” Here’s her experience. Read the previous days, too.)

Day 6

I’ve been really surprised by the fact that I’ve not been hungry much. I will admit my measuring has been a little heavy-handed – but we’re talking about over-measuring broccoli, for goodness’ sake.

Anyway, I dutifully ate my lunchtime sandwich today. And when I finished it … I was really hungry. Now what? I have been hoarding the eight almonds that go with lunch and that snack of celery and almond butter for later in the afternoon. But today I just scarfed those almonds down. My mouth hardly noticed. And my stomach followed that example.

But it shows how having a strict plan can help sometimes. This is all I’m allowed, so I actually walked by the chocolate bars sitting on a counter at work. I opt for yet another glass of water; Warner calls for 2 1/2 liters a day.

And I can tell this program is working. My waistbands are a little looser, not enough that anyone else would notice. But I find myself checking every mirror I pass. Warner counters those who criticize rapid weight loss by saying that losing some weight fast motivates you to keep going with a diet. We’ll see.

Tomorrow: The first weigh-in
